  • Defeated Republican challenger Matthew Rosendale by 3.5 points in a state that Hillary Clinton lost by 20 and President Obama lost by 13


  • Two term incumbent and native son who is a teacher and an organic farmer. His Campaign emphasized farm policy, global warming, tax fairness and access to healthcare


  • President Trump made an effort to unseat Tester, traveling to Montana four times before the election.  Tester won with increased turnout in Democratic-leaning areas of the state, strong support from Native Americans and women, increased support among independent voters, and 67 percent of the youth vote
